What is authorization?

Authorization refers to the process of validating of a card and confirming that it has sufficient funds available to cover a transaction.

Updated over 3 months ago

It's important to note that the authorization is not the actual charge or transfer of funds. It is only an approval to proceed with the transaction.

The final settlement or transfer of funds occurs during the following process known as settlement, where the merchant submits the authorized transaction for payment, and the funds are transferred from the customer's account to the merchant's account. The transaction will in most cases settle within a day, but it may take up to 10 days.

Please note that some merchants have the right to keep authorizations for 31 days. This includes merchants like vehicle rentals, hotels and lodging services and cruises.

You'll find your expenses that are still authorizations in the Zevoy Hub under Waiting for clearing.
